Little Steps, Big Impact

Little Steps. Big Impact is a public awareness campaign aimed at increasing public awareness about the problems created by ground-level ozone, changing Omaha area residents’ habits by encouraging the use of active transportation as a way to reduce ground-level ozone, and developing other small habit changes that contribute to better air quality.

Lovgren’s work for Little Steps. Big Impact. has been recognized with PRSA Paper Anvil Awards in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017, including an Award of Excellence in 2016.

Public Relations Case Study: School Curriculum Program

Lovgren Marketing Group and MAPA partnered with five metro area school districts to develop a classroom curriculum that teaches students about air quality issues. Based on Nebraska’s science standards, the program provides lesson plans to help teachers implement the curriculum in their classrooms.

Using hand-held meters to test air quality at locations around their schools, students track the data on the Little Steps Big Impact website. In both 2016 and 2017, earned media coverage of the program was substantial.

Marketing & Public Relations Case Study: 2013 Campaign

In both 2013 and 2014, Lovgren Marketing Group worked with the Metro Area Planning Agency (MAPA) to develop an integrated marketing campaign addressing elevated ground-level ozone in the metro with the goal of encouraging metro residents to ride the bus during the summer on days designated as “Ozone Awareness” days. The marketing campaign included TV and radio commercials, social media, outdoor advertisements, earned media and more.

Custom Air Quality Emoji Set

The EPA has six color-coded categories for air quality, and we took it one step further by developing a custom emoji set. Using the EPA’s colors, we illustrated faces ranging from happy for “Good” air quality to a frown for “Very Hazardous”, and introduced them on a series of marketing materials.
